About Me
I’m Asia Black, a licensed Marriage and Family Therapy Associate working with individuals, couples, and families virtually across Washington state. I aspire to be a life-long learner when it to comes relationships and the human experience across cultures.
I approach therapy through a systemic lens, grounded in the belief that understanding your present experience and how you move forward often begins with curiosity about your past and the experiences that have shaped your life. Therapy is a place to explore and deepen the connection with yourself and others while also healing from past wounds. My goal is to support you in deepening intimacy, working through conflict, and building relationships that feel secure and connected. I also help with navigating anxiety, depression, stress, life transitions, identity exploration, and healing from trauma. I believe everyone has an incredible capacity to grow, and I’m here to empower you in making the changes you want to see.
I was born and raised here in Washington State and received dual BAs in Psychology and Spanish from the University of Washington. After earning my BAs, I lived in Spain for a few years teaching English in both the private and public school system and traveling throughout Europe and Africa. Finding myself growing homesick, I then returned to Washington State and started working in the mental health field, providing case management and behavioral support services to adults and caregivers. Finding immense fulfillment in helping others find balance in their lives, empowerment to reach their goals, and meaningful interpersonal relationships, I sought and completed my MA in Couples and Family Therapy at Seattle University. During my clinical training, I interned at Next Level Therapy NW getting over 400 hours of experience working with couples, families, children, and individuals under the supervision of an experienced supervisor.
Outside of my professional life, I enjoy the outdoors: from skiing in winters to hikes and camping in the summer. I also enjoy watching reality TV, attending music shows, and spending time with my partner.
Therapy Services
Individual Therapy
The relationship you hold with yourself shapes every part of your life, and individual therapy offers a space to tend to that inner world. I guide clients toward greater self-understanding, helping them cultivate compassion, resilience, and insight as they move through life’s challenges. My style is integrative and personalized. I draw from cognitive and skills-based therapies (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy), trauma-informed therapies (Cognitive Processing Therapy), relational approaches (systemic and attachment-based therapies), and empowering, strengths-based approaches (Solution-Focused Therapy, Narrative Therapy). I personalize approaches to your goals and values, while also prioritizing creating a safe, supportive space where growth and resilience can be nurtured.
Couples Therapy
Relationships thrive when partners feel safe enough to be honest, open, and vulnerable. I create a compassionate, non-judgmental space where couples can gently uncover fears, attachment wounds, and unspoken emotions that keep them stuck in painful relational cycles. Together, we can cultivate more supportive communication, deepen emotional attunement, and foster a secure foundation for intimacy and connection. My work with couples is informed by systemic and attachment-based theories, as well as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, and relationally focused approaches such as Emotionally Focused Couple Therapy and Gottman Method.
Relationship / Family Therapy
All types of relationships have a profound impact on our emotional health, success, and quality of life. I provide joint therapy for family members, friends, collaborators, coworkers, and other non-romantic partnerships seeking to enhance communication, build trust, and support a healthier working or personal dynamic.
Specialties
When anxiety is running your life (racing thoughts, constant tension, overthinking, panic, or perfectionism), we’ll slow things down and build skills that actually work in real life. I’ll help you understand what your anxiety is trying to do for you, then practice tools for grounding, calming your nervous system, and shifting unhelpful thought loops so you can feel more steady and in control.
I also support clients navigating identity and cultural stressors, including the pressure to “hold it together” for everyone else.
Depression can look like numbness, low energy, feeling stuck, losing interest, or feeling like you’re going through the motions. Therapy with me is both compassionate and practical: we’ll validate what’s heavy and gently rebuild momentum, while also exploring the patterns and experiences underneath the sadness.
I approach substance use with a non-shaming, realistic lens: you’re not “broken”; you’re human and change is possible. Whether your goal is cutting back, sobriety, or relapse prevention, we’ll strengthen your supports, identify triggers, and create a plan to meet your goals.
Trauma can show up as emotional flooding, sleep difficulties, shame, feeling on edge, or feeling unsafe in your body. I take a trauma-informed approach that prioritizes safety and pacing. Together, we’ll work on stabilization and then carefully work with the parts of your story that still feel raw, so the past has less control over the present.
Parenting can bring up deep guilt, worry, burnout, and thoughts of “Am I doing this right?” I support parents in building confident and connected strategies, especially around emotional regulation, routines, and repair after conflict. My background includes years of working with children and families in educational and caregiving settings.
When family relationships feel tense, reactive, or stuck in the same fights, I help you slow the cycle down and make space for clearer communication. We’ll focus on patterns (not blame), build boundaries that protect the relationship, and practice ways to express needs without escalating.
If you’re finding yourself feeling disconnected, constantly arguing, unsure where things are headed, or repeating the same painful pattern, therapy can help you understand what’s happening beneath the surface. I help partners strengthen communication, clarify boundaries, increase emotional safety, and build a relationship that feels secure, safe, and fulfilling.
Intimacy struggles are more common than people think, whether it be low desire, mismatched desire, performance pressure, avoidance, resentment, or feelings of emotional disconnection. I help clients and couples talk about sex with less shame, improve emotional closeness and vulnerability, and create practical changes that support a more satisfying connection.
I offer affirming support for neurodivergent kids, teens, adults, and couples. That might look like building systems that match how your brain works, improving communication when processing styles differ, and reducing shame. My approach is shaped by years of experience working with kids and adults with neurodivergence, honoring different processing styles and building strategies that fit.
I provide LGBTQIA+ affirming care for individuals and couples, including support around identity exploration, coming out, family dynamics, and the stress that can come from living in a world that doesn’t always feel safe.
